Angulimala 19-24
- Once there was an expectant mother in the village who was experiencing excruciating labor pains. Angulimala had much sympathy for her and asked the Buddha what he could do to help her pain.
- The Buddha instructed him to go to her and say: “Since I have been born I have never deprived any being of life, and may this truth bring happiness and well-being to you and your baby. With tears in his eyes Angulimala said, “But that is not true, for I have killed many innocent people.”
- The Buddha then instructed him to go the woman and say, “Since I have been born again, I have never deprived any being of its life, and may this truth bring happiness and well-being to you and your baby.”
- Angulimala did so, and the woman gave birth without a sound.
- Once Angulimala was attacked by a group of villagers seeking revenge for his past crimes. They came at him with sticks and stones, causing him fatal injury, yet Angulimala bore them no ill-will.
- As Angulimala died, the Buddha came and comforted him. With his last breath Angulimala said, “I take refuge in the Buddha. I take refuge in the Dharma.”

- Finally, when Angulimala was out of breathe, he cried out, “Stop, monk, stop!” Said the monk, “It is you who must stop, Angulimala.”
- Angulimala asked, “What do you mean by this? For it is I who have stopped and you who have not.”
- Said the monk, “You must stop your evil ways, as I have stopped.”
- When Angulimala heard this he became enlightened.
- He realized that this monk was the Buddha.
- Angulimala fell to his knees and asked if he might join the Buddha as a monk.

- Angulimala intended to make this monk his thousandth victim.
- But as fast as Angulimala ran he could not catch up with the monk, who walked at only a leisurely pace.

24 Hour Comics Day Hour 5
Well, I’m almost a quarter of the way through the day and I have the pencils done for the first six pages and I am starting on the inks. I am going to ink the easier pages first and the get to the more complicated ones, and after I have inked these twelve I’ll started the sketches for the last half.
I didn’t mention it before, but the subject of this comic is the ancient Buddhist legend of Angulimala.
Wow this is slow going. Time to make some coffee.
